“Abortion is an act of violence against a defenseless child who happens to reside for a short period of time in his or her mother’s womb. Although the mother may experience a moment of relief, peace eludes her. That’s because abortion is unnatural. It goes against the maternal nature of a woman. Every Christian Lutheran should be appalled by the ‘quick fix’ of abortion. God is a God of Life, not death; a God of peace, not chaos. Abortion is an act which says to the Holy God, ‘I do not trust You.’ Every Christian Lutheran should be appalled by the arrogance of abortion. God alone knows the purpose and plan for each human life, and He desires that that purpose be fulfilled. Abortion is an act which says to the Lord of Life, ‘I do not want anything to do with this fetus (‘young one’) which You have created and redeemed.’ Every Christian Lutheran should be appalled by the rejection of one of His precious children. God has everything to do with each one of us, in spite of our inconvenience and pitiful condition. Abortion is an act which ways to the tiniest little boy or girl, ‘My life counts more than yours.’ Every Christian Lutheran should be appalled by the discriminatory act of abortion. God loves each human life no matter what size, color, age, place of residence, or ability. Abortion is an act which only leads to further violence. If life in the womb is of such little value, then how valuable can life outside the womb be? Every Christian Lutheran should be appalled at the disregard for God’s gift of life. God loves life!”—Linda D. Bartlett
